Securing Your Accounting Software with 2-Factor Authentication

This spring, Sage will be requiring 2-factor authentication for your Sage account. This means that you will not be able to share your login and password for cloud-connected services such as Remote Data Access or Sage HR. 2-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second form of verification, such as a code presented in an authenticator application, in addition to your password.

To get ready for this change, we suggest your Sage 50 administrator view this Sage University course or follow this Sage Knowledgebase article on creating new users. These will provide you with everything you need to prepare for this change.

Once the Sage 50 user has been created, have each user who will need access to cloud-connected services create a Sage account by following the instructions in the article "What is a Sage account, and how to sign up". If you would like to implement 2-factor authentication now, please follow the instructions in the article "Sage account—How to sign up to 2-factor authentication".

To ensure the safety and security of your financial information, you must never share your login and passwords with anyone. Sharing passwords can compromise the security of your system and put your data at risk. We take the security of your financial information very seriously and we appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep your data safe.

Update on Transport Layer Security (TLS) v1.0 and 1.1

We have recently been receiving some questions regarding TLS v1.0 and 1.1. So, we did some research, and here is what we found.

Recap

In late 2022, Microsoft announced its plan to retire Transport Layer Security (TLS) v1.0 and 1.1. Consequently, Sage decided to take a proactive approach by utilizing the most current version of TLS for Sage 50 2024. As a result, hypothetically anyone using versions 2020.1 and earlier would not be able to reinstall or reactivate their software after September 30, 2023.

It is now past September 30, 2023, but I am still able to use my Sage!

The Obsolesce of (TLS) v1.0 and 1.1 is/was a Microsoft decision, not a Sage decision. (TLS) v1.0 and 1.1 impact more software than just Sage. Having said that, Microsoft has changed the obsolescence date to October 31, 2024.

What Now?

At this point, you have two options:

1) Keep using your traditional software until technology breaks it! It is important to have daily backups. (We are receiving more calls lately from customers unable to open their software.)

2) Upgrade to the latest version of Sage 50. Learn More
