We have recently shared information on remote work and hybrid trends (blog page). More companies now require employees to work in person, in the office. As I've stated before, there are pros and cons.
Our research guru, Mark Scullard, PhD, recently published survey results from over 5,000 participants for insight into onsite, hybrid, and remote work satisfaction. Remote, hybrid, and in-person workers report a similar sense of connectedness to co-workers. There are other surprises. Chief among them is over half say work from home impacts their decision to stay with an organization.
Work from home is here to stay. It happened as the laptop and high-speed internet became widely available. The pandemic accelerated the trend and pushed some companies past their comfort zone.
Managers must apply wisdom regarding who needs the in-office connection and who does not. I think professionals with five years of experience in their job are more productive in remote situations, while newer workers, particularly GenZ, need in-person contact to build a sense of culture and belonging.
Unfortunately, wisdom is rarer than we care to admit. Knowing your employees better than they know themselves can help you refine relationships and understand who thrives in remote or in-office situations. Assessment tools help you know them faster.
