The National Federation of Independent Business (JobMatch Assessment is a member) recently released a membership survey. It reflects what many of our clients are facing.
NFIB monthly surveys cover the gamut of economic issues. While 9% of members report that labor cost is the number one problem, 24% said it was labor quality. Labor quality is at the top of the list.
Quality is hard to hire right now. Demographics show fewer entry-level workers than we had a few years ago, so many companies are seeking more experienced workers at a higher cost. The natural problem is that great workers tend to stay where they are doing a great job. Struggling workers are often the first ones to apply for a new one.
Still, some good workers are seeking new roles for legitimate reasons. Maybe they are simply seeking a better job, and you might have one.
