Great Assessment Can Improve Diversity

Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) returned to standardized testing for admissions.  Dean Stuart Schmill stated,

"... standardized tests... help us identify academically prepared, socioeconomically disadvantaged students who could not otherwise demonstrate readiness because they do not attend schools that offer advanced coursework, cannot afford expensive enrichment opportunities, cannot expect lengthy letters of recommendation from their overburdened teachers, or are otherwise hampered by educational inequalities."

His statement is consistent with other research indicating testing can identify talent that might otherwise go unrecognized.

Consider the ramifications for pre-employment assessment.  A heavy focus on experience eliminates some high-potential candidates.  It is a real problem in today's tight employment market.

Many employers are rightfully concerned about introducing adverse impact potential when using an assessment.  DISC, a four-quadrant personality assessment based on Marsten's theory, is the most popular assessment in the world.  Unfortunately, it can introduce a bias.  At JobMatch, we don't sell or service our DISC products for pre-employment use.  It is a cultural development tool to improve communication and avoid conflict.  Use it only on existing employees.

Pre-employment assessment should track and report adverse impact data.  We do that with the PXT Select™ assessment.  For decades, it has proven to lack adverse impact.  That makes it an ideal tool to understand a person's potential, regardless of life's opportunities.

At JobMatch Assessment, we provide tools to move your strategy forward.

  • Use job-matching assessment to know employees and candidates better than they know themselves and develop and move them to the most engaging work.
  • Use relationship tools to help employees identify their strengths and weaknesses and be effective with others not like them.
  • Use feedback tools to improve leadership skills and build cultural connections.

Improve your hiring, culture, leadership, and productivity.  Our assessment and surveys are world-class and statistically sound.  Contact us, share your concerns, and see how we can help you.  No charge, no obligation.

Don't Let Remote Work Curb Sales Development

During this time, one of the most critical questions any President or CEO must face is:  “How can I build and maintain a productive sales program?”  My friend and associate, Troy “The Sales Navigator” Harrison, offers an answer through his Smooth Sailing Coaching Programs.  No professional athlete has ever achieved greatness without collaboration with an equally skilled and passionate coach. In the same way, for long-term sales force development success, coaching can be essential to achieving your goals.  Troy can help you focus and direct your efforts, streamlining product knowledge, creating fruitful lead generation, and putting the right processes and people in place.  Troy’s programs include individual, autonomous activities, like my Sales Force Audit, or my Salary Calculator, and their success is built on the group and one-on-one skills coaching. These programs have produced dramatic growth for companies all over the USA – and whether you are located in his hometown of Kansas City, or from coast to coast, he can help you.
