Engagement is Falling.

'Quiet Quitting' is only part of it.

Employers still have difficulty finding ready workers despite a cooling economy, rising unemployment, and last week’s increase in jobless claims. We covered the reshoring trend in our previous newsletter, and that may be just the beginning of complicating factors.

 

Reversing the trend of the last decade, we are seeing disengagement rise. Gallup just released an annual engagement survey and reports that about half of workers are in ‘quiet quitting’ mode. To me, it reads that Millennials are disengaging as they are required to return to the office, while Gen Z is disengaged because of the lack of managerial and mentor attention. Gen Z is craving the attention they lacked during the covid crisis, and now no one in the office is interested in helping them grow.   

 

The job switchers are getting rewarded, too. Last weekend, the Wall Street Journal reported job-hoppers are getting higher pay increases than at any time in the previous two decades.
