Some Employers No Longer Require an Interview

 

. . . but good workers leave to avoid stagnating with poor workers.

A couple of weeks ago, we shared an article showing employers are pulling away from college degree requirements. This week, the Wall Street Journal reports many employers no longer require interviews for low-skill positions.

 

The market for these workers is overheated. There are far fewer Gen Z (think new workers, 18 to 25-year-olds) in 2022 than Millennialsin 2002. The supply is limited, and the demand is high.

Consider the impact of lowering screening requirements. Employees hired to these standards meet lower expectations and drive the performance standards down. Good employees see those work standards and know they bring a higher value. Now your good employees see their future somewhere else. The most engaged employees step up, only to burn out.

 

Young workers may still be getting to know themselves, but they are certainly learning about jobs and what it takes to operate in the working world.

 

Better succession planning is a good strategy. Aptitude assessment helps you know these new workers better than they know themselves. It gives you a tool to discuss the best-fit work for a new employee and help guide them to that. It shows you care.
