Workers are Quitting at a High Rate Last month we shared an article about companies tapping alumni networks and retirees to lure back past employees. That article is worth reading again as the bad news (for employers) continues. On Monday, the Wall Street Journal cited the U.S. Labor Department’s data in an article titled “Workers Quit Jobs at a Record Level in November.” Fox Business interviewed Bill Simon, a workforce analyst and former CEO of Walmart, on the same subject.
Simon keyed in on how larger employers are raising wages and increasing automation. Smaller companies cannot afford that approach. So, for now, larger employers have the edge.
I know it is hard, but you can still love them even when they leave you. You have a business to run and no control of the employment market. Maintaining relationships with your ex-employees is one of the few arrows left in the employment market quiver. Use all the methods you can muster to stay in contact with them. Invite them to events.
Life changes. Some exes will find the grass is not greener. Automation may drive layoffs. More importantly, stay in touch with alumni because they know people, and you need people. Maintaining the relationship can boost the referral network.

NO BRAINER!
For months we have been sharing articles on how the workforce has dramatically changed since the pandemic started. Much of the change, like working-at-home, was expected. Covid hastened its arrival, and now we struggle to adjust quickly enough to create a retention culture. Keeping talent has become the number one issue, so much so that we all understand the term “The Great Resignation.”
Our publisher, Wiley, surveyed 4,500 working professionals last July. These workers are reporting higher levels of stress than ever before. You probably know professionals who have quit a job, even if they don’t have a new job lined up. We see a rash of career switching. The study and findings to help you increase retention are below. Click the “Keep Your People: How to Navigate the Great Resignation” banner.
The pandemic hastened the acceptance of technologies that allow hybrid work. Hybrid work is attractive to some and isolating for others. Now, we must leverage technology to build culture, increase belonging and enhance the hybrid experience for both types of people.

The Human Side of Selection
Don't Let Remote Work Curb Sales Development During this time, one of the most critical questions any President or CEO must face is: “How can I build and maintain a productive sales program?” My friend and associate, Troy “The Sales Navigator” Harrison, offers an answer through his Smooth Sailing Coaching Programs. No professional athlete has ever achieved greatness without collaboration with an equally skilled and passionate coach. In the same way, for long-term sales force development success, coaching can be essential to achieving your goals. Troy can help you focus and direct your efforts, streamlining product knowledge, creating fruitful lead generation, and putting the right processes and people in place. Troy’s programs include individual, autonomous activities, like my Sales Force Audit, or my Salary Calculator, and their success is built on the group and one-on-one skills coaching. These programs have produced dramatic growth for companies all over the USA – and whether you are located in his hometown of Kansas City, or from coast to coast, he can help you.
